There are some countries where pearls are sourced from; some of which are the following:

Japan

Japan has been known to be the pioneer of pearl farming. In 2010, Japan has dominated about 80% of the world’s pearl industry. Specifically, the Mikimoto family in Japan has been known as one of the largest sources of natural and cultivated pearls.

Philippines

The Philippines, surrounded by bodies of water, is the perfect place for natural pearls and cultivated pearls. The archipelago in the South East Asian region has been known to greatly contribute to the increasing demand in the pearl industry.

China

Despite being predominantly covered in land, China has learned to culture fresh water pearls. This industry started in Shanghai and has now spread all over the country. Annually, China produces 1500 tons of freshwater pearls to which they utilize the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong for distribution.

Australia

Australia is the second biggest pearl market. In 2010, the pearl industry in Australia has contributed to the country’s economy with more than $200 million yearly. The pearls are cultivated in farms within the country.

India

India has the largest and the last natural pearl inventory in the market. Their pearls are definitely worth to keep.

With this, grabbing on specific pearl jewelries such as earrings and a pure pearl necklace is definitely a must. Prices may also be cheaper in countries directly cultivating the pearl sources.
